Online Backup Plans and Cost Review

The online backup company SugarSync does have a FREE 5GB plan, but you really need to very carefully look over their website to find it.

This is not a free trail of some kind that only last a month or two and you will later be asked to pay for the service that you are receiving, but an actual free 5GB of backup storage space. We are always kind of suspicious of these types of offers, because the company can change their minds at anytime, and then what are you going to do?

SugarSync normal pricing structure works the following way. For $4.99 a month, or for $49.99 for the year paid in advance, you will receive 30GB of storage capacity. If you need 60GB of space, it is $9.99 a month, or $99.99 if you pay for one year up front.

A 100GB will run you $14.99 a month, or $149.99 for the year if you pay in advance. The last rung on their system is for 250GB of space, and it cost $24.99 a month, or $249.99 for the year if you pay for it all at one time. They also allow you to try their services for 30 days for free, after which you will need to make the decision to either stay with them, or find another online backup company.

They do have a business plan which is $29.99 a month for 100GB of space, and you are allowed to have 3 users on the account. If this package does not make any sense to you, it did not to us either, until we dug a little deeper into the company.

Customer Service Review

Our firm has reviewed many other types of computer related online businesses, and in all of that time we have never seen a customer service department setup like SugarSync is. They do offer live telephone support, if you pay $99.99 a year for it.

We consider this a complete joke, and for that reason we would never use this company’s service. Back to their “Business Plan”, and it’s pricing structure. If you do sign up for it, you can use their telephone support for free. Great, charge us twice the monthly fee of your normal plan, and give us something for free, that should have already been free.

We always call each and every online backup companies customer service department to try and test them out for our reviews, but we were not about to pay $99.99 for that experience. So, we cannot tell if they are fantastic, or terrible, all we can tell you is that we really do not like the way SugarSync has this part of their system setup.

Online Backup Software Features and Complexity

We did find something that we liked about the online backup company SugarSync, which was their software. Thankfully, when we setup our free account everything went very smoothly.

That being said, we have tested out many online backup company’s software systems, and we do have a great deal of experience in this area. If you are a novice with this type of software, all we can say is that we hope you do not need any telephone support to get it up and running properly.

All online backup firms do pretty well in the security section of our reviews, and SugarSync was no different. They use an extremely sophisticated encryption system that is very powerful, and should keep your data extremely well protected.
